Interview with Nic Newman of the Reuters Institute on AI and disinformation

Nic Newman is a senior research associate at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. A large part of his work is to look at and investigate trends in digital journalism and news media, also predicting what is to come in this fast evolving field. Among others, his findings feature in the ‘Journalism, media, and technology trends and predictions’ reports, the most recent one being published in early 2023.

Even more popular, and a “must-read” for anyone in the digital news media industry, is the Institute's ‘Digital News Report’ which comes out every year (the current and most recent one being the Digital News Report 2022, with the 2023 edition scheduled for the summer).

At the International Journalism Festival 2023 in Perugia that ran from 19-23 April 2023, I (Jochen Spangenberg, the author of this piece) had the opportunity to interview Nic about his views on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on the disinformation and verification sphere.

Watch this short video to find out what Nic had to say on the matter and why he thinks that the challenges lying ahead will be “exponentially greater”.
