vera.ai at IBC: Europe's primary event for the media industry

From 12–15 September, the vera.ai project showcased its tools at IBC2025 in Amsterdam, the leading global event at which the media, entertainment, and technology industries gather to share insights, showcase innovation, and shape the future of content.

At the European Broadcasting Union stand, vera.ai partners demonstrated how vera.ai’s trustworthy AI toolkit supports media professionals and researchers in tackling disinformation. Varvara Boboc (University of Amsterdam), Pierre Fouche (EBU), and Christos Gavalas (Athens Technology Center) presented practical workflows that embed AI-powered disinformation detection into verification routines, showcasing responsible innovation in practice.

Backed by a consortium of 14 partners across Europe, the toolkit combines multiple capabilities. Among them: automatic keyframe extraction with text and face recognition, synthetic image analysis, geolocation, detection of deepfaked audio, and identification of machine-generated text. Importantly, the tools are designed to provide likelihood scores and contextual cues that empower users to make informed decisions. vera.ai trustworthy AI solutions make disinformation and fake news campaign analysis easier. Accessible and user-friendly, the solutions are designed to protect truth while strengthening trust.

Visitors from diverse backgrounds, including journalists, media professionals, business developers, and R&D specialists, explored how the tools can be applied in practice. Demonstrations covered resources such as the so-called verification plugin, the Coordinated Sharing Detection Service, and the Database of Known Fakes. These enable journalists, fact-checkers, researchers, and civic organizations to better analyze disinformation campaigns, support evidence-based reporting, and promote accountability in the public sphere.

The IBC2025 demo underlined how vera.ai’s approach advances both innovation and responsibility in the fight against disinformation.

Overall, being present at IBC 2025 proved to be highly beneficial to the vera.ai project and for spreading its results. Furthermore, it coincided with the 3-year-anniversary of the project. All's well that ends well!
