We are thrilled to announce that the vera.ai scientific director Professor Kalina Bontcheva has been appointed Chair of Working Group 1 for the new Code of Practice on the Transparency of AI-Generated Content.

EU DisinfoLab has updated its Impact-Risk Index and mapped it alongside other leading frameworks. This new study offers a comparative overview of how different methodologies define and measure disinformation impact, highlighting similarities, gaps, and areas for improvement. On 9 September 2025, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) hosted the 9th and final edition of the webinar series in which selected vera.ai works and outcomes were presented. This session discussed the potentials of the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) and how it can support against disinformation - also potentially in combination with vera.ai tools.

The EBU's 'Handbook on the legal and ethical obligations to developers and deployers of AI-based fact-checking tools' provides an accessible guide to these rules and obligations, especially under the EU AI Act. It has a particular focus on the development of AI-based tools for journalism. 

On 3 September 2025, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) hosted the 8th edition of the webinar series in which selected vera.ai work and outcomes are presented. In this session (with one left to go on 9 Sep 2025), Anna Schild (DW) and Lalya Gaye (EBU) discussed their work in involving stakeholders in the co-creation and evaluation of AI-based fact-checking tools within the project. The EBU's Lalya Gaye and DW's Anna Schild and Eva Lopez teamed up to dive deep into how best to achieve trustworthiness by design in AI-based fact-checking tools. They devised a design framework based on exploring user needs and evaluating tools produced in the project with respective users. Some of all this was recently presented at the HCI International Conference 2025. Paper to follow soon. 

vera.ai project partner EBU (European Broadcasting Union) has taken a closer look at the so-called  Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) and produced a report that provides deeper insights into the aims, ambitions and operation of the C2PA. It furthermore investigates how C2PA could supplement verification activities such as those coming out of vera.ai.

On June 30, 2025, Chicago, USA became the meeting point for experts and researchers to fight disinformation: The 4th edition of the ACM International Workshop on Multimedia AI against Disinformation took place as part of the ACM Internation Conference on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR). vera.ai's Thomas Le Roux of Fraunhofer IDMT provides a short recap of this year’s workshop.

On 24 June 2025, more than 70 participants joined the second public vera.ai webinar in which project npartners presented key research outcomes and technological advancements developed over the past three years. The sessions were geared towards researchers and professionals, focussing on the cutting-edge AI models and methodologies that power the verification tools offered by vera.ai.
