In October 2025, the University of Urbino team presented multiple research outputs related to vera.ai across two major conferences in Brazil, bringing together scholars from all over the world, and beyond, to examine how disinformation spreads, evolves, and shapes our digital landscape.

We are thrilled to announce that the vera.ai scientific director Professor Kalina Bontcheva has been appointed Chair of Working Group 1 for the new Code of Practice on the Transparency of AI-Generated Content.

From 15 to 16 October 2025,  vera.ai partner EU DisinfoLab hosted its annual conference, #Disinfo2025, at Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana, Slovenia, bringing together 600+ participants from across Europe and beyond. Several project partners represented vera.ai at its own booth and took the chance to exchange with conference participants directly. Furthermore, AFP's Valentin Porcellini showcased a selection of vera.ai tools in a demo session on the second day of the conference.

EU DisinfoLab has updated its Impact-Risk Index and mapped it alongside other leading frameworks. This new study offers a comparative overview of how different methodologies define and measure disinformation impact, highlighting similarities, gaps, and areas for improvement. From 12–15 September, IBC2025 took place in Amsterdam. It's the leading global event at which the media, entertainment, and technology industries gather to share insights, showcase innovation, and shape the future of content. We were there, too, and had the opportunity to showcase tools and services coming out of the project.

On 9 September 2025, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) hosted the 9th and final edition of the webinar series in which selected vera.ai works and outcomes were presented. This session discussed the potentials of the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) and how it can support against disinformation - also potentially in combination with vera.ai tools.

The EBU's 'Handbook on the legal and ethical obligations to developers and deployers of AI-based fact-checking tools' provides an accessible guide to these rules and obligations, especially under the EU AI Act. It has a particular focus on the development of AI-based tools for journalism. 

On 3 September 2025, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) hosted the 8th edition of the webinar series in which selected vera.ai work and outcomes are presented. In this session (with one left to go on 9 Sep 2025), Anna Schild (DW) and Lalya Gaye (EBU) discussed their work in involving stakeholders in the co-creation and evaluation of AI-based fact-checking tools within the project. The EBU's Lalya Gaye and DW's Anna Schild and Eva Lopez teamed up to dive deep into how best to achieve trustworthiness by design in AI-based fact-checking tools. They devised a design framework based on exploring user needs and evaluating tools produced in the project with respective users. Some of all this was recently presented at the HCI International Conference 2025. Paper to follow soon.
